Introduction to Pastels with Mary Pritchard

This workshop is currently filled to capacity.

Join Mary for this classroom–based workshop for beginners and others who want to explore this flexible and forgiving medium. Students will be introduced to a variety of pastels, painting surfaces and pastel techniques. Demonstrations and critiques are part of this lively workshop. Students will work from still life set ups and photographs. The workshop will cover techniques for using photos and improving compositions, while helping students develop their unique viewpoints and creative approaches to the pastel medium.

Students will supply their own pastels and Canson paper, based on instructor’s supply list. Instructor will supply additional pastels and surfaces for students to use. Material fee is $10, payable to instructor.

Mary Pritchard received her B.A in studio art from Mount Holyoke College and has Master’s degrees in both art and journalism.  She was in-house corporate art curator for Ashland Oil, Inc., advising on the acquisition, installation and conservation of art.  She coordinated special events and traveling exhibitions for a variety of artists including internationally known landscape painter Wolf Kahn.  Following a career in education administration at the University of Delaware, she returned to painting full time.  An award-winning pastel artist, she is known for her landscapes of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, as well as coastal Maine and rural Nova Scotia.  A popular workshop instructor, she maintains a studio in historic Chestertown, Maryland.  Galleries representing her work include Bishop’s Stock, Snow Hill, MD. and the Station Gallery, Greenville, DE.  She will be exhibiting at Easton’s Waterfowl Festival for the 10th year in November 2022.
