3rd Place Autumn Dusk (Pine needle coiling) by Jane Tolar.
The St. Michaels Library Gallery
106 S Fremont St, St Michaels
Thursday, October 1 – Friday, October 30, 2026
This exhibit will run through the month of October at the Saint Michaels Library.
1st Place Adkins in November by Rhonda Ford
A very peaceful and meditative painting; it is very open yet enclosed. The abstraction hints at the movement of light, shadow and wildlife just out of sight. The accents of orange and pink give the composition strength and Autumn energy.
2nd Place Forest Prism by Beth Wright
The attention to color and shape gives a beautiful feel of symbolism to this painting. The centrally split composition gives a duality evoking the chill of autumn on one side and the warm seasonal sentiment and color on the other side.
3rd Place Autumn Dusk (Pine needle coiling) by Jane Tolar
Beautiful craft with subtle color contrast. Rich thoughtful materials.
Honorable Mention –Moonlight Delite by Peg McCormack. Captures the reflective moments of an Autumn evening walk and the internal quality that nature out of focus at night creates.
Honorable Mention – Last Dance by Jo Merrill. The gesture of the leaves is animated and lively. Playful like Autumn. Wind swept and atmospheric without being overly literal.
The show was judged by Teddy Johnson.

About this year’s judge, Barbara Zuehlke
Barbara Zuehlke
works in many mediums from serigraph to oil, focusing primarily on watercolor. She is proficient in using wet pigment on wet paper (wet on wet) to give a softness and flow that is exciting when combined with the sharp, clean edge of working on dry paper. She creates beauty for your enjoyment, believing that good drawing is the basis for good painting and that the observer needs to feel the medium… “the flow and transparency of watercolor or the rich gooeyness of oil.”
The Artist is a native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphics and painting. Her commercial experience began with the J.L. Hudson Co. in Detroit, Michigan, designing large-scale animated and still-display promotions; followed by display coordination management for John Wannamakers in Philadelphia. She has worked freelance in wrapping paper and logo design. Barbara is a partner at The Artists Gallery in Chestertown, teaches intermediate watercolor at Dorchester Center for the Arts; and is an active member and past President of Working Artists Forum. Barbara has had a one-person show at the Dorchester Art Center and shown her paintings at the Academy of the Arts in Easton, the Oxford Art Show, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Creatrics Gallery, and other Maryland Eastern Shore arts shows. She presently operates her art studio in her Eastern Shore home.

Artist Christine O’Neil will give a demonstration using fluid acrylics at the October 16 SMAL Member Meeting.
Painting with Fluid Acrylics
If you like watercolors, you will love acrylic fluids! They can be soft and similar to watercolors yet are capable of intensities similar to traditional acrylics. This medium can be a great bridge between watercolors and regular tube acrylics. This demo will show several ways of using them. The paint can be applied to watercolor paper or on stretched canvas.
Christine O’Neill is an artist who home, for many years, has been a sailboat in the Chesapeake area, the Bahamas, and points in between. She has traveled extensively through the U.S. east coast, Bahamas, and the Caribbean, as far as South America. Many of her paintings are inspired by the placed she has visited. She now resides in Rock Hall Md. And winters on their boat in the Florida Keys.
In the early 90’s, she was awarded a painting traveling sabbatical for 14 months and painted her way through a 2nd masters degree. Having earned degrees in Fine Arts and Education from MICA and Towson University, she taught art for many years in public schools and has taught private and small group painting lessons.
She is available for lessons & commissions. You can reach her through her phone – 443-822-9153. Or swancreekgallery@gmail.com website- christineoneillartist.com.
