What is the Banner Program?

SMAL is linked to the town through our banners. The banners hang on the street poles of Talbot Street from April through November. The banners are created from 18 x 18 originals submitted by the artists to the Banner Program. The $65 registration fee covers the production costs of the banner, which will remain the property of the artist

Retail Sales Opportunity

No other event showcases the talent of SMAL artists to such a broad audience. The original pieces are displayed in the St. Michaels Library throughout the month of April and are available for sale. The artists can show previous year’s banners for sale at the Labor Day Show. The artists retain rights to their originals and can sell them at their discretion. Kevin Snelling will continue to select banner images to feature as posters in his retail shop, Creative Expressions. All banner images will be available on-demand and the artists and SMAL receive a portion of the sale.

Judging

Judges will be announced in February.  There will be prizes for artistic merit and graphic design.

2022 High School Banners

Image 1 of 1

St. Michaels High School Art students have participated in the SMAL Banner Program for many years. Under the mentorship of Bridget Whithed, award winning art instructor, their work shines on Talbot street poles. Bridget has honored their participation with a permanent exhibit in the hall of the High School. SMAL provides canvases to the students and funds their participation as part of Talbot Arts Council community action.
