Once again, SMAL artists have turned their paint brushes to Banner images, creating artwork that will decorate street poles in mid-town St. Michaels. Much anticipated by tourists, town folks, and merchants, these Banners represent a collaboration with the Talbot County Arts Council, Choptank Electric Cooperative and other advocates to “Celebrate St. Michaels.” Peruse the posted images on our Banner Page and you will see artist’s interpretation of life in St. Michaels executed in various media, all to a common format. A St. Michaels High School student, Julia Spurry, provided an image as well as a previous scholar, Hannah Hughes. Artists benefit by the follow-up exhibition at the St. Michaels Library, opening on April 3rd and a chance to sell their original or the actual Banner at the September Labor Day Show.
This year two St. Michaels merchants selected the images that will be sold as posters in their retail establishments. Kevin Snelling of Creative Xpressions and Alice Marie Gravely, owner of the A.M. Gravely Gallery selected several images. Congratulations to Joan Cranor, Joseph Fasolo, Perry Foster, George Hamilton, Kathy Kopec, Marianne Kost, Jo Merrill, Sharon Mills, Jan Perdue, Virginia Perram, Valerie Sunderland, Walter Urbanek, and Mary Viega for having their paintings selected.
In addition, Michael Morgan, offered a new SMAL collaboration with the St. Michaels Marina and will fly two banner images from the Marina dock.
Other talented Banner participants include: Anne Allbeury Hock, Mary Davis, Joanne Ehlers, Janet Prieger, Debbie McKee, Kathie Rogers, Elizabeth Wright, Diana Dardis, Jan Perdue, Pat Alberico, Judy Bittorf , Julia Spurry, Deborah Colburn, Rosemary Aldrich, Susan Crawford, Hannah Hughes, and Jane Anderson.
All images can be seen on our Banner Page, at the library exhibit, and flying from the poles on Talbot Street.
